17th - 20th September 2016 Jane Raven set up her studio in Edinburgh 20 years ago working with glass and stone. Five years ago she took up painting and printmaking. This exhibition shows work from each of these 4 mediums.
Jane Raven is an artist who set up her own design and production workshop in Edinburgh in 1998. Having completed a diploma in Decorative Arts at City and Guilds of London Art School that year, she has continued to practice the course’s philosophy of producing ‘functional art’ by launching her wide range of glassware – a recent addition being her stylish new lights.
15 years ago Jane also started working with stone. Like the glass, each piece is stencilled and sandblasted by hand. The stone range includes designs, quotes and lettering including initialled pebbles and personalised wedding, anniversary or Christening stones. Jane is a founder member of the Scottish Lettercutters Association.
5 years ago Jane went back to the drawing board – literally – and did a full time painting course at the Leith School of Art for 3 years. This was followed by a part time one year printmaking course.
All of this leads to an exciting mix of different mediums, with a strong botanical theme linking them all.
